Netflix special stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle appeared at a secret show at a comedy club in Liverpool last night.

The US star has recently faced criticism over jokes involving transgender people.

Dave appeared at the Hot Water Comedy Club on Wednesday evening.

Taking to the stage at the intimate gig, Chappelle reportedly performed a set that lasted several hours.

Comedy fans in the city have expressed amazement at the secret show on social media.

On Twitter, Hot Water Comedy Club said it only had two hours' notice that the global star would be performing at their venue.

It comes the day before he begins a short arena tour in the UK with fellow comedian Chris Rock.

The pair are due to perform at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, before two dates at London’s O2 Arena.
